New paintings and ceramics byJools Woodhouse & Ali Herbert

Painter, Jools Woodhouse and Potter, Ali Herbert have combined their love of creating beautiful items for the home and will be exhibiting together for the first time in Lyme Regis this Spring.

The two week exhibition is a culmination of the artists’ recent individual discoveries of new styles, colour, form and influences that have come from living close to the sea.

Open 10.30am – 5pm every day, free admission. Preview Friday 28th April from 6pm – 7.30pm.

Jools Woodhouse

Jools works from her studio, a few miles outside Lyme Regis and paints vibrant, eye-catching scenes of Lyme Regis and The Jurassic Coastline with its striking landscape of cliffs, fields, sea, sky and harbours.

Her mixed media work captures the ever changing colours in this captivating part of the world.

The process Jools uses involves constantly absorbing brilliant and harmonious combinations of colour and form while out and about, which then appear over time in her work.

Her palette is influenced by the seasons and reflects the views and moments savoured as she goes about her life.

Ali Herbert

On meeting Ali Herbert, a connection was made.

Ali’s rich and wonderful ceramics and Jools’ paintings just seem to complement each other beautifully. They sit together in peace, each enhancing the other.

All Ali’s pots are designed with domestic spaces in mind and although predominantly made for use, she is trying some large pieces for this exhibition. Ali uses Cornish clay from St Agnes and produces stoneware with an earthy palette of glazes, and is still exploring new ways of working with them to produce fresh colours and treatments that complement the forms.

Ali works intuitively to decorate a form sometimes using a coloured slip and sweeping brush marks, or with a gentle indentation left by a wooden tool which then becomes marked by the pooling of glaze. Each pot carries her personal seal.
