A solo show by Debbie Bell

This colourful and vibrant exhibition of oil paintings by Debbie Bell focuses on her love of proverbs and fables.  She has been fascinated since childhood with these sayings handed down through time and still quoted today.

“Proverbs have a timeless quality, like a good story, that still resonates with our hectic lives,” explains Debbie.  “I use oil paint, building up layers of colour until the details of the finished painting emerge in all their intensity.”

“Coming from an artistic family,” she adds, “and living in a house full of art, literature and music, I was always surrounded by creativity.  I studied theatre design and fine art in the Midlands before moving to London where I illustrated children’s books, working for Walker Books and Heinemann.  I eventually left London and moved to the West Country where I began painting in a studio in my seaside garden.”
