More about the society

Members of this Society share one thing- an interest in art and in honing artistic skills.

There are around 8 demonstrations each year- with professional artists talking through exactly what they are doing, and why and we run around 7 workshops – full day events run by these artists with a varied programme to cater for all. There is an extra charge for the workshops and non-members are very welcome to join us. Demonstrations are held in the United Reformed Church Hall in the centre of Axminster and Workshops are held at All Saints Village Hall. Annual membership is currently £22 a year, with a reduced rate for joining after the summer exhibition in June.

Each year our President, a practising artist, gives a critique on work brought to the meeting by members. This is a wonderful opportunity to get professional feedback and everybody learns by listening to the advice given to others. Non-members are very welcome to come to these meetings but only members may submit work for a critique.
Our major exhibition for fully paid up members is held in our own marquee at the Axe Vale Festival but this year we will also be exhibiting in the prestigious Lyme Regis Town Mill Malthouse Gallery in November.

If you join the Society you will find yourself amongst a group of really friendly like-minded people. Whilst we are fortunate in having a few professionals, by far the majority are amateurs. A few of our members don’t paint at all but just like the activities on offer.

Why not try coming to a meeting as a Visitor? The £5 charge to non- members is set against the subscription if you then decide to join.
