Encaustic Wax Painting, Mixed Media & Sculpture
Born in Brixton, London now living and working from my studio near Lyme Regis, Dorset.
The Jurassic coast remade in hot wax, captivated by layering and mark making, drawing inspiration from the natural world, the sea and organic formations.
‘Dawn has exhibited widely across the UK over the years including group exhibitions at the OXO Gallery, London & Andean Gallery, Cork Street, London. She continues to work from her studio near Lyme Regis, Dorset where she is constantly inspired by the natural world, the sea, organic formations, colour, line and texture’
I work in multiple layers of wax, sometimes between 30/50 layers, which are then scraped back to reveal the layers beneath, creating texture and depth. To me, it is all about the process and working with the materials, exploring and experimenting and pushing the boundaries with this diverse medium and hopefully ending up with a painting which will excite and spark the viewers imagination.
I teach encaustic painting workshops for artists, photographers & complete beginners, I have taught many artists both here in the UK and abroad, including Australia and South Africa, come and be inspired, to find out more please visit my website.
I am also a keen photographer and enjoy combining my images with ink and graphite and then encasing them with hot molten wax using various techniques known as photo-encaustic.
